Mountain Skillz Obtains Special Use Permit On Rio Grande National Forest

Published in the February 2017 Issue News

Matt Entz, owner of Mountain Skillz, a Colorado-based snowmobile riding clinic business has some big news for those looking to learn and/or polish their sledding skills in Colorado.

He announced that, as of Feb. 7, Mountain Skillz with Matt Entz has obtained its very own Special Use Permit to operate in the Divide Ranger District of the Rio Grande National Forest.

He said, “This is what we have been working towards for more than five years and have been continuously told not to hold our breath because it would probably never happen.” He continued, “While this means so much for our business, we also see it as a great benefit to our partnership and more potential for us to promote your business as well. We now have access from six separate trailheads and more than 20 times the amount of area as we have been previously operating on.”

In a nutshell, the new Special Use Permit gives Entz more room to teach. “This will offer more variety for our guests as well as room for a lot of growth into the future,” Entz said. “For the remainder of this season, we will continue to offer what has been the backbone and foundation of our business: personalized instructional technical mountain riding workshops and avalanche safety courses.”

Entz, through Mountain Skillz, is offering his very first three-day Level 1 Avalanche Course as an American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) course provider and instructor. This course will take place March 9-11. Snow conditions willing, Entz will offer another one in April.

Moving into the future, Entz has set the permit up to offer the additions of on-trail tours, off-trail guiding and snowbike guiding.

He continued, “We have a great opportunity to continue sharing our vision of the sport, promote safety and stewardship and give people one heck of an awesome experience. Additionally, we are excited to promote our home forest, continue adding to the local economy and provide employment opportunities.”
