A sticky chart of Polaris clutches would be nice

I may be in the market for a replacement clutch for my elderly Indy.
The problems are multiple, but the first two that come to mind:

1) The assy for my year and model ('92 Indy Sport 440) is OBS.
2) Other more recent years, i.e. the '93 440 SKS, which is still available, does not show (on the Polaris website) that the fitment of that clutch is for my '92 model.

I thought that as long as the taper and crank bolt hole were the same, I would be able to shim up the clutch to make allowance for belt clearance.
Note that I am assuming that the taper and bolt hole would be the same for same size engines that are only 1 year apart...
I obviously don't get it.

Why won't the '93 clutch fit and work on the '92?
Anybody have an answer?...:face-icon-small-sho

Even better... a sticky or master chart as reference for Poo clutches !

Surely Somebody must know about Poo clutches

The immediate need to get a new clutch for my '92 Sport 440 has passed, for now, but I would still like to know if anyone knows, or can tell me how to tell if a Polaris primary clutch from one model and year, will fit on another model and year.

What would I need to know, or look for?

Any clutch experts care to weigh in?

If I was a poo guy this is the only guy I would trust. A lot of others doo.

Thanks for the reply XPen$.. The shop you speak of looks like they would know, but my question is how would I (or anyone else who needed to know), be able to tell. There must be some rules or guidelines, common sense kind of things.

Right now, all I have to go on is the fact that Polaris doesn't list a '93 as compatible on a '92. Why? There must be a reason.

Every time I come across a clutch that looks like it might work for a particular application, I can't just call Fixmotorsports to bug them. Would get old really fast.

Somebody out there has gotta know why...:face-icon-small-sad:face-icon-small-sad

Or am I asking the wrong question, or posting in the wrong place.

Generally, if the taper is the same, something can be made to work. The main reason the Polaris site doesn't list the '93 clutch as compatible is probably simply because it was a different part number. Not that it won't work.

It's likely a safe assumption that the same basic engine, 1 year apart, will take the same clutch. It's also relatively safe to assume that nearly any sled from the 90's is a 30mm 1:10 taper, and so will interchange with few problems.

This is a list of all the sleds that take the same part number for the end of the crankshaft. Therefor a clutch for any of these can easily be made to work, and many others, with some digging:

PERFECT!

Thanks Bud... I was hoping there was a simple explanation and way to tell. The taper, which I suspected, and the PN of the crank end did the trick.
Your list of possible compatible clutches is a huge bonus! It may help some other poor clutchless soul.

Now I just need to scrounge around and scare up a replacement from some sled boneyard...
Do you know if the retaining bolts are all the same length?

How about the clutch removal tool... Would the same one remove all clutches from the years in the list?
