Project: Ski-Doo Build with the Parts and Accessories Catalog

Published in the February 2018 Issue August 2018 Feature Steve Janes

For years the editors of SnoWest Magazine have built project sleds designed to allow us to install and test an array of aftermarket parts and accessories. It’s been our way of getting more familiar with performance products being used by you, our readers.

This fall, while we were running through a long list of products to be considered on this year’s Project Sled, someone floated the idea about taking one of our demo sleds and doing a project build with OEM accessories. After a couple of quick phone calls to our contacts at Bombardier Recreational Products, we were thumbing through a 178-page catalog chock full of parts and accessories designed specifically for Ski-Doo snowmobiles.

After narrowing our interests to parts specifically designed for mountain riders, we settled on a dozen items that could transform our 2018 Ski-Doo Freeride 154 into the perfect Stock Project Sled.

Keep in mind, we were looking for simple “bolt-on” accessories that could enhance our riding comfort without compromising our mountain performance qualities. Weight was always considered … but we realized that by adding accessories, we would be adding a pound here and there throughout the process. We wanted the installs to be easy enough that a journalist could do.

We focused on protection, convenience and versatility. Everything had to be either functional or practical.
