Polaris Titan: Work And Play

Published in the February 2018 Issue August 2018 Feature Lane Lindstrom

Every once in a while we talk about a sled that you normally wouldn’t read about in the pages of SnoWest Magazine. We are, afterall, the “authority for western snowmobiling.”

On occasion, however, a snowmobile comes along that catches our attention and we like to share what we like about it with our readers. Sometimes it’s a trail sled, sometimes a crossover machine and other times a utility sled. Yes, a utility sled. Remember, we did say “on occasion.”

It’s not like we spend a lot of time on utility sleds, but this past winter we did get a fair amount of seat time on the new Polaris Titan. We say utility, which some within the walls of Polaris headquarters would bristle when we label it that, as Polaris labels it an “extreme crossover” sled.

We think of the new Polaris Titan much the same way we think of Polaris’ General side-by-side vehicle. Polaris basically created a new category with the General, which it labels a “rec-utility” vehicle. It can work and play. Work and play also describes the Titan.

Polaris does offer the Voyageur, ironically a vehicle it describes as a rec-utility snowmobile, but we think of the Titan as a bit more adventurous because whereas the Voyageur is available with a 550 fan-cooled or 600 liquid-cooled engine, the Titan comes with the Liberty liquid-cooled 800 with Cleanfire injection. Bigger and stronger, that’s the Titan.
