XCR 800 secondary Damage

Running Erlandson Purple Secondary Spring. Spring jumped out of hole in sheave , Therefore pushing Helix into jackshaft bolts & scoring back  of Helix. Has anyone had this problem & could this spring have to much tension?

Re: XCR 800 secondary Damage

I've never had it happen to Me personally but, it can happen I guess if when you are putting the Secondary together, you don't get the end of the Spring seated just right in the Hole on the Sheave. I've had a Spring snap though (that was a lot of fun....not and it more or less screwed the helix by the time I got stopped). I suppose if you're the World Arm Wrestling Champ and can really torque that Helix, One could see the Possibility of the Spring either snapping ( especially if it's Old) or " jumped out" as yours did.

Depending on how badly your Helix is scored, you might still be able to use it just so long as you make sure the Spring is firmly in the Helix( and the Sheave too) before tensioning and snapping the Ring onto the Hub! You might have to add some shims to the Jackshaft before sliding the Clutch on tho depending on how much the Helix was scored.

Good Luck.
