2000 XCR800

Hey guys, decided to go back a few years for my sled this year. I picked up a beautiful 2000 XCR800 with 6200 miles. All service work done (bearings, slides, EV cleaning etc) this sled is bone stock. Wondering if I could lean on some lessons learned from the guys who have done this sled already. Any advice on jetting, clutching, studs etc would be great. I want it to be trail rideable but will give up some of that to have a faster lake sled. I'm not planning on pipes or porting. Just the basics to make it all she can be. Any input is appreciated. Let it snow700EV

EPI red primary, 62g, Poo silver/blue w/ any 52/36 helix. Spin her at best 8.3k.  Stock jettings, I believe is 450 for sea-level area - go down 430s and check your plugs. Minimum of 168 studs and hang on. LightningWLLightning

Make sure that it has the updated black carb slides! If it got the original green ones - they WILL crack, and pieces may get sucked into the engine....  When it happened to me, I was lucky, the piece got caught in the reeds ...

Thats right, I sorta forgot about that, Thanks IVAR.   I have had that flat slides broken in my old '99 XCR8 twice and both times, it was caught in the reed cage - Ive lucked out that it didnt get sucked inside the motor as well. WL

Re: 2000 XCR800

Hey guys, thanks for all the great advice. I didn't know about the carb slides so I will get those changed out as well. The clutching stuff recommended is very close to stock. R12 is 50/36. I will change the weights up to the 62g from the stock 60g. I already ordered a new EPI spring. Have you guys played with the EV springs?

Thanks again for all the help. I'm hoping it's a runner....

6300 miles.. could be time for a new set of EV Springs when setting them botom out the blue cap abd bring them back out 3 - 4 clicks "detents on the cap" I would also recomend if not done to get the waterpump rebuilt, unless you know when it was done, typically about every 4000 miles.. also a front torq arm to help save front pto side motor mounts is a must.. Super links are the ticket for the torq arm.

Wall, once you get it all dial-in, your sled should run like an animal. Yes  Roger, how did you triple-edge run last year? Did it performed better than youve expected? Email me when you get a chance. Later .... WLLightning

Re: 2000 XCR800

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice. I did find that one of my slides were broken and yes the piece was sitting in the reed cage. They have been replaced. I jetted down to 430 mains. I did find the front PTO side motor mount was broke and fixed that. I installed the updated version but have not found a good torque stop yet. Basically went through everything else. The clutches looked surprisingly good. I did install a new almond spring with 62 gram weights. I installed a new stock primary spring and set it in the 2nd hole. The clutches actually looked quite good. Must be a triple thing... I took it out last night on the local lake. Both of my gage lights are burned out so I could not read them (replacing today). She seems to run strong. Looking forward to seeing it run against the buddies sleds. Not sure where it will stand against the latest big bore twins but it sure is smooth. Again, thanks for all the advicePhil
