2009 ESTA Pro Sled Shootout Date Announced

Racers and fans, put in for your vacation time now, and plan to attend the nations “Richest & Biggest” asphalt sled race….the 8th annual ESTA Pro Sled Shootout. The date has been set for the weekend of July 11 & 12, 2009 at the ESTA Safety Park Dragstrip in Cicero, NY. We will have more info as we get closer to the 2009 season but this is what I have so far.

Power Adder Quick 16:

$2000.00 to win. Guaranteed 1st place prize money regardless of number of entries.

$800.00 runner up. Based on minimum 16 sled field.

$400.00 semi finalists. Based on minimum 16 sled field.

All Motor Quick 16:

$2000.00 to win. Guaranteed 1st place prize money regardless of number of entries.

$800.00 runner up. Based on minimum 16 sled field.

$400.00 semi finalists. Based on minimum 16 sled field.

Pro Stock 1000 Quick 16:

$2000.00 to win. Guaranteed 1st place prize money regardless of number of entries.

$800.00 runner up. Based on minimum 16 sled field.

$400.00 semi finalists. Based on minimum 16 sled field.

Bracket Race:

$3000.00 to win. Guaranteed 1st place prize money regardless of number of entries.

$1000.00 runner up. Based on minimum 64 sled field. (never had less than 64 sleds)

Round money starting with second round winners.

Trophy Class:

Big trophy to the winner

Regular trophy to all 1st round winners. Sleds entered in any of the money classes are not eligible to run in the trophy class. This is to keep the rich teams from buying a time trial.

Prize money could go up depending on sponsor participation. Rich and I are starting now and have a year under our belts putting this race together, we will be able to do a better job for the sponsors. 100% of the sponsors money is returned to the drivers in prize money. We will have the Pro and Super Pro cars both days to aid in traction.

2009 Sponsors so far:

Amsnow

Cooper’s Landing

Dyno Port

ESTA Safety Park Dragstrip

Extreme Exposures

F.X. Caprara Trailer Sales

I guess the Twin class is out. I am not overly surprised because of the poor turn out in that class. It is a shame I really thought this class would open up for more entries.

That would be good Ron! There are many other twins out there not sure why they dont come and have fun. I guess the only problem in most eyes may be tryng to compete against the big D&D turbo as that is in a class of its own and it is almost a contest for second place with no offence to D&D or Glen Hall on that. I would have thought this class may have been of interest to other aftermarket shops to show off there stuff but I guess the twin class is small potatoes for them.

might be more of a matter of affording to build a contender ,  if i honeslty could i would be tinkering with the 4-stroker 4-cyl  supercharged motor and chassis at this stage ,  one come out late in the season , nice piece , big power , no lag probs ,  not in my price range thats for sure ..lol   but as far as power adding ,   those are the future along with the turbo's   ,  i know the feeling of running for 3rd to 5th place...lol   still fun , but i didnt bother this past summer.  ,  Wink

Stan,

I received your e-mail. I'll get back to you next week after the ESTA banquet this weekend.

Question: What about a class for Twins with a max CC of 1000 with no power adders? Seems like that would be a big class.

Re: 2009 ESTA Pro Sled Shootout Date Announced

If I recall didn't the trophy class only have 4-6 entries.  I know the thought was good to try and get some newcomers interested but I think most of them would probably want to run for the money.  I think a twin all motor 1000cc cap would be a great class.  I would love to run my handicapped little twin against 1000's heads up.  No weight limit.  Anything goes except power adders.  Hardly any tech needed (Only by protest if someone is willing to put up 100 bucks to check bore sizes) and probably a common class that involves at least three of the manufactuers.  Also probably a lower budget class.  It seems like a great Idea but unfortunetly everybody will talk about it and only a few will show up.

Re: 2009 ESTA Pro Sled Shootout Date Announced

Shock I am quite certain Vern made it through last year without a heart attack and in case you missed it there was a twin class. As I recall the twin class was forgotten when first announced last year so discussing this on this post may remind or provide answers for those of us who have twins and would like to run heads up.

Mike Thanks for letting me know. I think that would be a great idea and maybe just bring back a few of those who disappeared when the power adders took over. As I recall D1D motor only ran real strong and maybe this will bring him back. Same with looney.
