2001 Xc 800 Questions

I have a friend looking at a 2001 Xc 800 limted to buy for trail riding & was wondering if anybody could give me some feedback on any issues with this sled or motor& or upgrades. Its a very clean sled with only 1200 miles on it. Its not bargain priced but I'm mostly concerned about motor issues if any. Thanks MMR

Re: 2000 Xc 800 Questions

No such thing as a 2000 xc800. Sounds like a 2001 XC800 Limited edition (LE)..? It was blue and had a M-10 rear skid. For trail use, the Non-ves 800 is pretty bullet proof IMO. Vibration Is hard on clutches and a wobbly clutch is hard on crank bearings.

Re: 2000 Xc 800 Questions

Yes your right its a 2001. So I corrected my above post & its just as you described, Blue w/M-10. We just picked it up this am & got it home. Seems real spunky out of the gates but sorta flat in the Mid range. Gonna check the carbs & clean them. A saw where there were posts on jetting down from the 460mj stock to 430's--- good idea or risky ? We will probably clutch it for the trail, any info on that would be appreciated. I'm assuming at this point were dealing with a pure stock sled. Thanks MMR

Not familiar with the LE, but I think 430's may be a little low. Stock clutching should be almond primary, 10-64's, polaris roller sec. with R12 and a silver/blue. I'd try something like 10-66's with a new almond spring, and a new silver/blue spring for the secondary as a starting point.

For what its worth the SLp pipe worked quite well on the 01 800 non ves engine giving it a healthy mid range boost.

Re: 2000 Xc 800 Questions

Thanks for the info so far guys. I've been searching various forums for info. What I've come up with so far is jet it with 440s, AS 1/3/4 turns & Needle in center slot. 10-66 wts Almond Blue Drive Sp, Polaris Blue Orange driven sp ( not sure what hole ????  )   & poss take a tooth off the top gear. Any other of different thoughts would be appreciated. Happy Turkey Day ! MMR

I don't think you need to go to the stiff blue/orange sec spring, unless you also put in a more aggressive helix. A fresh silver/blue should IMO be enough. Anyone..?
