Knock sensor in head?

I've seen heads with a tapped hole for a motor knock sensor.  How do these work?  What does the knock sensor connect to?

Re: Knock sensor in head?

Knock sensors usually detect high frequencey vibrations either through the head metal or directly from the cooling system, the sensors are wired into the igniton box or ecu and sends a signal to either one and then the timing is retarded to help prevent engine damage, some manufactures even had a light to let you know of potential engine damage or a situation that may cause engine damage.
