Trail Conditions

Well after 20 years in the Air Force I was looking forward to going to pick up my first Vermont Trail map after 14 years of being stuck in Kansas. I went and got cash out figured 10 bucks should cover it. When I went to the counter at a local dealer and they said it cost 20 dollars everyone in the rooms mouth dropped. Glad to see I was not the only one who was in a state of shock. This is ridiculous what the h&!! is the TMA for, don't we give enough on that. I'm just really disapointed that my favorite sport is just another sceem for someone else to get rich off of.

It seems your not the only one here in michigan they're upping the trail permit sticker to 35.00 a 10.00 increase and 30.00 for three year registration a 8.00 increase. due to a short fall in funds. Without the increase they tell us no more grooming of the trails. But a few years ago we passed a law that allows all the money a sport takes in to stay for that sport i.e. hunting license stays for hunting purposes fishing license, ORV permits and so on. If snowmobiling is the #1 money making sport  here in Mi. so they say, why an increase, the money must be getting lost in the shuffle somewhere and not going where it's supposed to. likely in a politicans pocket.

I here ya $90 bucks a year per sled for TMA(trail maintenance something), $15 bucks per year for registration, 20 bucks for trail map, $40 bucks for a gallon of injector oil and $3 bucks/gallon of gas. I haven't even rode the sled and my wallet is crying. I guess there will be less traffic on the trails this year which is a plus. Sad to think of all the epople who are giving up on what they love because they can't afford it any more. Why the we are not getting gas @ a tenth the cost from IRAQ is beyond me!!!

Well guess what. I went on line to the VAST website and trail maps are $3 bucks +1 dollar for shipping. That place was selling them for what ever they felt like. Highway robbery!
