TRUCKS - F150's - gas milages.

GUYS/GALS,  I am looking into to buy a '04 to '07 F150, supercab. auto with either 4.6l or 5.4l engine. For those who have that truck, what kind of gas mileages do you get with it? I used to have a '97 4.6l and I was getting 12mpg. Are the newer trucks better?  Pls let me know, and thanks.

Have an 07 with a 5.4.   Went to New York the other day.  Got a little over 18mph at 70 - 75 mph.  The 4.6 won't do that.  Don't go with the 4.6.

I do know the newer 4.6l has a bit more ponies but not enough to get a better gas mileages. The most newest version 4.6l has a 3 valves in the '09s, just like the current 5.4l    Im leading to get the 5.4l only because the motor doesnt have to work as hard as the 4.6l       Anyone else? Lets hear more.

I had a 4.6, good motor, but needed a few more ponies.  I have the new 5.4 3v and it has been a great motor for pulling.  I can pull a two place enclosed trailer in overdrive.  I also pull a 6K lbs. boat around with no problems.  Out of overdrive this thing seems unstoppable. Gas consumption is better than the 4.6.  The 5.4 currently has 111K miles on it and still running strong.

I've got a couple friends with the 5.4 3 valve engine in their F-150's. They have been decent averaging 13 city and up to 19 highway similar to my 5.7 tundra. My 08 Tundra kills these trucks powerwise though.

I would say city is 13 mpg and hwy about 18.  I have larger tires affecting milage slightly.

I have the 07 F150 Lariat 5.4 with the crew cab and 5.5 box.  Seem to be getting around 18 - 19 US per gallon on the highway.

Re: TRUCKS - F150's - gas milages.

I know when you really think about it a V6 should get better MPG than a V8, just like you woulkd think a 4.6 would get better MPG than a 5.4, but really it is just the opposite.

I am think about getting an 08 leftover GMC, Chevy, or Ford 1500 regular cab, 8ft bed, 4WD, in the next couple years.  I don't want anthing bigger than a 5.4.  I currently have a 1999 F-150 XLT 4.6 regular cab, 8 ft. bed, 4WD.  Nothing against Yoda, but would prefer to stay American and Dodges cost too much.  What would you guy's recommend as the best all around 1500 truck from those three makes.  transmission, MPG, towing, acceleration, dependable, price, 4.6, 4.8, 5.4?   Does the chevy or GMC 4.8 get better MPG than the 5.4?

thanks.

Re: TRUCKS - F150's - gas milages.

Its like Ski Doos, with the best gas mileages in snowmobiles and GMC/CHEVY gets the best gas mileages in trucks. I do know my old '97 4.6l was worse mileages I ever had in a truck. So far, e'yone were saying the 5.4l is the best in FORDs right now so Im thinking of staying away from the 4.6l engines. Good informations guys/gals - keep them coming. Anyone?

Re: TRUCKS - F150's - gas milages.

That fuel mileage the new Chevys get is sort of distorted. In most hilly conditions around here they get about the same mileage as my Tundra or the F-150 5.4. Funny about those older 6 cylinder mini 4wd trucks. I know guys with S-10s, Rangers, and older Tacos and 3 liter Toyotas that got the same fuel ecomony as todays full size V8 4x4 trucks while making less than 1/2 the power. As far as Toyota goes, more of that truck is put together here than other brands they are keeping real americans on the job.
