Re: Best places in eastern UP

Ride to Grand Marais, Mi. Its right off lake Superior and GETS some snow. If your not familiar wit da up, basicaly anywhere north of highway m-28 is big lake effect area. In Grand Marais stop for fuel FIRST then cross the street to the Lake Superiour Brewery try a Granite Ale. Then head west on trail 8 until it "T"'s off with trail 89 take this trail next to Grand Sable Dunes (no ridding in the dunes, big ticket) then next to Lake Superiour Shore. Depending on when you go and how thick the ice is, the lake can deposit some huge ice bergs on shore. Every time i've been there the wind chill is outragerous and so are the drifts lots of fun. Also go see Taqumenon Falls between newberry and paradise the area was being logged last year hopefully the trail is smoother this year. Busted my driveshaft right outside the entrance last year I blam -20 temps and hitting the tall mougals a little too hard. There is a restaurant at the entrance to the falls also. Be advised a long walk in snow gear down to the falls from the restaurant, you cant ride down. Have fun and SAY YA TO DA UP EAH!!!

Also once the season starts check trail condtions on WWW.FISHWEB.COM/RECREATION/SNOWMOBILE/TRAILS/INDEX.HTML They seem to have the best true trail condtions and weather reports for the state.
