Shoeless Joe Racing:
I had a great time at NYIRP Wednesday night racing Steve's sled. Unfortunately I left water in the tunnel from the water box and blew away the track on the starting line in Round 1 of eliminations. I had treed the guy in the other lane, but I blew it and lost an easy race.
I must say - everything that has been said about Steve's sled here: http://cs.amsnow.com/snocs/forums/t/42806.aspx is true and then some! We put a very mild tune on it because it has been sitting for a year and the fuel was a year old. Even with the mild tune I ran a 9.84/130mph and scared the poop out of myself (I had never gone that fast on a sled).Anybody can take 100lbs off this sled, lean it out a bit and have it in the 9.30's - 9.20's all day long IMO. Steve has put a LOT of work and thinking into this sled - it is VERY well engineered and extremely clean. Anybody who wants a turnkey asphalt operation for a dirt-cheap price is doing themselves a disservice by not checking this sled out. I really can't believe it hasn't sold yet.
Steve - thanks so much for letting me run it - the sled is everything you said it was and more! I'm sorry for letting you down in the first round - the sled would have gone rounds if the driver had his act together!
Scott,I'm glad you could make it to NYIRP and get a chance to ride and race my asphalt sled. Once we got the cobwebs blown out and you got a feel for it, it ran pretty much as I expected. It's too bad I didn't have fresh racing gas because I would not have had to rich-en it up so much to be on the safe side. That said a lot for the quality of Sunoco 114 race gas, super stuff. I often wondered what might have happened if I were to remove 75 or 100 lbs as you mentioned. But as you can see it looks like a trail stock-er with ALL the factory goodies on it and some that I added. When I got home I gave it a look over and everything still looks perfect (motor, track , suspension, etc...) ready for the next time you come to town, unless I take it out myself or It finds a NEW HOME!!! Maybe someone at Epping might give it a look now that you have driven it. It would look good parked next to yours at your home track don't you think.
It's a shame no one has really taken a good look at this sled. As you can attest from 1st hand experience, it's exactly what I said it is. Ready to rock and roll.
Let's do it again if possible. It was great to have met you and your buddies last week, Keep in touch.
