Anytime you change the Exhaust system on your Sled, it's a good idea to check the Spark Plug color ( should be light brown or Tan colored). The best way to do this is to warm up the engine to operating temp, nail it for approx. 100 yds. or more if you have the space and then hit the kill switch with the throttle still pinned. This is called a "Plug Chop". Pull the plugs and check the color of the insulator tips. Usually you'll need to change the carb Jets and/or the Clutching Specs when you increase your Engines power in any way be it pipes or whatever.
Checking the Piston wash after a Plug Chop is also a good idea but, you'll need a Bendalite so when you pull the Plugs, you can look in the holes at the Pistons to check their condition like the other fellow mentioned in your other Post.
If you take the time to do this simple Procedure after any Mods you may do and get the carbs and Clutches right, you should not be blowing up any Motors.
Any Clutch work should be done by someone who knows what they are doing as this will involve changing the Springs and/or the counter weights and there are a few Tricks to the Trade. Watch them and ask Questions so you'll be able to do it yourself next time. Might be a good idea to do the same with the Carbs (unless you know how they work) by watching a good Tuner work on them so you can see how it's done.
That said, if you have your engine tuned just right and the temperature decides to drop to minus 25-30, you had better not boot down a long stretch wide open before installing bigger Jets in the Carbs or you definitely will blow her up!
Good Luck.
