Western U.P. Snowmobile Report
March 7,2008 CURRENT SNOW DEPTH: 17.8 LATEST SNOW and GENERAL WEATHER: Forecast has been all over the place this year, thoght this weekend looks fairly normal..around 20 daytime...single digit lows at night. Don't have much in the way of snow in the forecast until early next week-could sure use some to top off the trails. TRAILS and CONDITIONS: ON ALL BIG SNOW COUNTRY TRAILS: Be aware some trails will be icy so do watch for them...slow down especially on the corners. From the Gogebic Range Trail Authority: groomers out on the trails-trail 2 is groomed and in good shape -they are working on the rest of the trails- bases are good but hard from the sub zero temps, despite grooming. From Lake Gogebic: Grooming daily-trails in good condition but Icy-watch for a few bare spots. Silver City: trails in good condition. Ontonagon trails are groomed with good coverage. Watersmeet trails groomed and reported in good shape. I reiterate: ON ALL TRAILS: Watch for icy areas and keep your speed down on the corners.
One more heads up: Tickets are being issued for illegal behavior and sleds, including trespassing, not stopping at stop signs, riding illegal railroad grades and especially loud or altered pipes. Just obey the laws and you'll be fine. As always, check with your lodging facility on ice depth and conditions before venturing out on any Lake. Come on up-have fun-be safe! SPECIAL EVENTS: Take a look at web cams throughout the area to check out the snow for yourself.
