Storm Flywheel

I am looking for a Storm flywheel FP9305 is the # on it.  What is the difference in flywheels between the years?  Will others work?  Does anyone repair the magnets, mine has one magnet broken off.

Re: Storm Flywheel

Not sure about that number, but the 93 Storm original flywheel had 6 more degrees of initial timing (28 degrees and the same 12 degrees at top end as the others) Polaris stated that it was due to the length of the magnets. Later in the year, Polaris replaced that flywheel with one with shorter magnets and only 22 degrees initial timing and 12 on top. The original is better.

In 96, all Storms and several other Polaris triples went to sequential digital ignition. This requires a different flywheel with an extra long magnet in only one of three positions to synchronize the timing to the correct cylinder.

Don't know who repairs magnets.

Re: Storm Flywheel

93 "3 " pulse flywheel....the good one FP6396 remember, there are actually 3 styles for this year. The original one that came on the sled, a very small external magnet that was an update, then the final which has (external) magnets that are in between both sizes. I have three flywheels all part number FP6396 that have three different sized magnets, you need to be aware of what will work the best for your application. Roy, I will call you later today.

Re: Storm Flywheel

You can also use a FP9308. I just went through this looking for the same flywheel. They are getting scarce. I discovered that the FP9308 will also work (they are identical laying side by side as far as magnet size, placement, timing marks and keyway). I bought a FP9308 and then found where I had stored my spare. I will sell the FP9308 for $175 plus shipping if interested.Chuck.
