Dear American Snowmobiler, It's a simple as this: CAN YOU GET A SNOWMOBILE UP TO 170 MPH ACROSS A FROZEN LAKE? (To get to the other bar). I knew a sledder that said his sled could do this. He had the latest and the greatest sled each year. I have not seen him in ten years, but everyone says 170 is not possible. What about nitro? I look forward to your responses. Regards, Mr. Speed Brookfield WI

I did 167.5 MPH in 2000' on my buddy Charlie's pro stock 1365cc Hooper this past winter and with the right condition next year we will get it to 170MPH.There's about 1/2 dozen sleds so far that have it the 170 MPH at the N.B.S.S.R. TRACK.

I would say no way on a sled that is being run from bar to bar. On a strictly race sled with huge horsepower and setup perfect maybe. I wouldn't count on it. Riley

Agree, no "trailable" sled can reach 170mph.

I would have agreed a few years ago, BUT now with 400hp turbo or supercharged trail sleds on hard ice or very hard packed snow, it might be possible. A gentleman from my way with a supercharged nytro has seen 140mph on a TRAIL sled on a Stalker gun in about 1400 feet. So if he had about 1 mile from the bar he might be able to get 170mph. If he had the cajones to hold it down that long. Normally asperated trail sled, no way.

I WOULD AGREE 100 percent it is possible on a trail sled I have one that can reach that speed given
the right conditions
