Winter made a big return to the Midwest last year and it couldn’t have been more obvious than in our neighbor city of Milwaukee, Wis. Here’s a glimpse at our incredible winter. U.S. sled registrations for the season ending last fall came to a cumulative total of over 1.625 million. This is a 2.6% increase from a year earlier. In Canada, more than 708,000 snowmachines are now registered, a 1.5% increase from the year before. Snowmobilers in North America rode an amazing 17% more miles this past season with the average snowmobiler riding 1,040 miles. Sales of snowmobiles worldwide also increased 2% to 163,753 units. A very few lucky Ski-Doo riders will have the honor of owning a 50th Anniversay edition E-TEC sled. Only a few hundred will be built and Ski-Doo reps are being very tight lipped about who will actually end up with them. We are hoping to get our hands on one, but we may have to grease a PR rep or two with a good bribe.

Getting ready for the Red Lake I-500 Last year we ran the I-500 cross-country race as a team and now YOU can too. The USCC (U.S. Cross-Country Snowmobile Racing Association) announced Tuesday that it is creating a new class - Team 600 - for the Red Lake I-500 this January in Thief River Falls, Minn. Snocross, X-Games champion fractures back in motocross accident Blair Morgan Former world champion snocross racer Blair Morgan suffered a severe back injury during practice for the Motocross Valvoline of Montreal on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Olympic Stadium. After a wild season of new event winners and new National records, the 2008 National Speed Association Pro Stock Asphalt Sled Champion is Ken Lund from Brunswick, Maine. Lund and the Wise Man Racing Team of Andy Emmertz and Andy Palmer had an excellent season of racing. ISOC's spring training will be held at Quadna or Planet X depending on snow conditions. Practice will be Friday, Nov. 21, 2008 and racing will be Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 22-23, 2008. All race classes that run a National Event are invited. Cost is $50 for Saturday and Sunday, or $100 for the weekend including practice on Friday. Anchorage , Alaska - Helmetlight, Inc., the manufacturer of the LEAD-DOG Helmet Light has teamed up with the Tesoro Iron Dog Snowmobile Race to sponsor the World's Longest Snowmobile Poker Run ( www.irondog.org ). Snowmobile Winter Use Rule is shot down AmSnow Staff District Judge Emmett Sullivan of the U.S. District Court of Columbia recently vacated the National Park Services Winter Use Rule from last season. Last season’s rule said that 540 Best Available Technology snowmobiles could visit the park per day.
