LOADED FOR SUCCESS -- Expedition is a big-time hauler, or a fun 2-up for the family.
The 150-horsepower Rotax 900 ACE Turbo is an engine that will sit you back in your seat with enough speed and acceleration to put a smile on your face for days.

While the Expedition SE offers a variety of engine packages, we were able to test ride the 900 and found that it provided the adrenaline rush we have come to expect from Ski-Doo’s high-horsepower sleds. The difference was that this animal was concealed neatly in a utility package. Ski-Doo’s Expedition SE 900 Ace Turbo is the mullet of snowmobiles, while the famous ’80s hairstyle was labeled as business in the front and a party in the back, this utility package is just the opposite, business in the back, and a party everywhere else.

■ An Agile, Sporty Platform

The 900 ACE engine has a sweet new chassis to call home in the Expedition as the lineup adopted the REV Gen4 platform. This is the same platform as the mountain lineup, giving Ski-Doo’s utility offering more agility and performance in deep snow than ever before, not to mention the 900 gained 5 horsepower when it was slipped into its new chassis due to updated components, including a new air intake, exhaust, and pDrive clutch.

The REV Gen4 platform with 20-inch wide tracks and sporty handling provides the best of Ski-Doo’s technology when it comes to flotation and performance in varying conditions.

Ski-Doo describes the Expedition SE as the intersection of comfort and capability, and we found this to be true, especially when one considers the rider options for the suspension. The SC-5U rear suspension provides great performance in the powder and on the trail. An air-controlled suspension that allows the rider to choose on the fly between five preloaded settings, riders can easily adjust their ride to function at its best whether on a bumpy trail, in powder, or pulling a load.

In fact, the Expedition even performs well in reverse with an articulated rail for traction in deep snow. The electric throttle also is a comfort feature, providing an easy throttle pull to aid on long trail rides.

■ A Winter Workhorse
With all these party features, it would be easy to overlook Expedition’s business side. However, this is where this sled shines.

Its Multi-LinQ plate allows the rider to easily add and remove a whole library of features. The LinQ system can hold 135 liters of lockable and weather-resistant storage and have ample room for tie downs and additional racks to hold a rifle, skis, or ice auger. The storage with the LinQ system can be changed to suit the type of work at hand.

In addition to the Expedition’s stout hauling abilities, it boasts great towing capacity. The multi-gear ratios allow the rider to customize depending on the load and conditions.

Different options are available for tracks too, including the standard 1.5-inch lug Silent Cobra WT, or optional 1.5-inch lug pre-studded Silent Ice Cobra WT, or 1.8-inch lug Cobra WT.

With all its options the Expedition can be made exactly as you need it, and likely will make your neighbors jealous too.
