Better performance F5

I have a 2004  AC F5 Sno Pro. My buddy has a 2003 AC F5. Both sleds are bone stock. Does anyone kno what i can do to my 2004 to enhance performance and beat him in a race? Maybe good clutch kits? thanks for looking

The 03's have a different driveshaft (10 tooth vs 9 tooth on the 04's) different gearing, and a different clutch, plus they are a little lighter.  Clutching would be a good place to start, the Outdoorshop in Massachusets custom builds kits and they are highly recomended.

Re: Better performance F5

I know this is an AC forum, but the VForce thing caught my attention.  I was thinking about putting Vforce3 reeds on my previous sled (04 600 SB), but never did.  I Snow checked an 09 600 SB and have the same question that Firecatkid500 asked.  How much HP would I actually gain, are they worth it, will they increase MPG?

Thanks.

Re: Better performance F5

A friend of mine wants to put a performance chip in his 06 Crossfire 6, I have heard bad stuff about them in sleds.  Has anyone on here heard anything about performance chips in sleds?

not going to gain hp with the reeds, you will get better throttle response.Save the $250 and get the bmp mod pipe and y pipe. For the $350 you will spend on the y pipe and pipe mod you should see 10+hp gains

Ok thanks.  I didn't think that was true when I read that VForce3's give you more HP.  Have you heard anything about performance chips in sleds?  I don't want to tell him not to get until I have proof.

Thanks again for the info.

they are junk, the best bang for your buck would be the clutch kit,bmp pipe mod and y pipe,All of this at under $500 and you will be leaving your friend behind. If you have an efi the d&d pac system works amazing with those other mods i mentioned and will boost your hp way up.

i didn't realize you had a 500,was thinking you had a 600.I don't know if they make the y pipe or mod pipe for the 500.If not jetting and clutching would be your best bet

I have heard that with a 2 stroke and the bmp pipe mod you have to worry about blowing your sled up. Is that true?

Also, is there any clutch kits you reccomend with the pipe mod?

Re: Better performance F5

Anytime you change the Exhaust system on your Sled, it's a good idea to check the Spark Plug color ( should be light brown or Tan colored). The best way to do this is to warm up the engine to operating temp, nail it for approx. 100 yds. or more if you have the space and then hit the kill switch with the throttle still pinned. This is called a "Plug Chop". Pull the plugs and check the color of the insulator tips. Usually you'll need to change the carb Jets and/or the Clutching Specs when you increase your Engines power in any way be it pipes or whatever.

Checking the Piston wash after a Plug Chop is also a good idea but, you'll need a Bendalite so when you pull the Plugs, you can look in the holes at the Pistons to check their condition like the other fellow mentioned in your other Post.

If you take the time to do this simple Procedure after any Mods you may do and get the carbs and Clutches right, you should not be blowing up any Motors.

Any Clutch work should be done by someone who knows what they are doing as this will involve changing the Springs and/or the counter weights and there are a few Tricks to the Trade. Watch them and ask Questions so you'll be able to do it yourself next time. Might be a good idea to do the same with the Carbs (unless you know how they work) by watching a good Tuner work on them so you can see how it's done.

That said, if you have your engine tuned just right and the temperature decides to drop to minus 25-30, you had better not boot down a long stretch wide open before installing bigger Jets in the Carbs or you definitely will blow her up!

Good Luck.
