How to fit a Storm motor in an '96 Ultra chasis?
Does anyone have any experience with this?  It seems that the steering rod is in the way of the motor, the motor fits in the mounts if you take the rod out.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Frankenstorm,

he spent about 150 hrs on his. '95 storm trip/trip in a 96 XLT, X-TRA 12, had to mod just about every thing. Mainly due to tall shock towers. It may have been easier if it was a X-10 but Frankenstorm could tell you better.

he put 1,1/2" tall aluminum blocks between motor and mounts to raise engine above stearing linkage, K/N filters cause box wont fit any more, modded pipes to fit, etc.... engine just fit under stock hood. He has ton of pics. I'll let him know about your thread.

Just did it last year, use the steering from a 93 to 95 storm, ultra engine straps. You'll need to trim the strap a little to clear steering rod, also grind a hair off cooling block on front of motor. Remove spacer below shock bolt, drill out and mount shock there. Cut top shock tower off and cover hole with aluminium, pipes should lay in just like in the storm chassis. Use voltage regulator out of storm ultras won't work. If you use all steering components from storm it will work.

Put it in a 93-95 storm chassis and put ultra decals on it. That's the easiest way.Stick out tongue [:P]

Race or trail? If it is race, I make a custom motor plate. Ive put storm motors in ultra chassis, ultra motors in 650 chassis, etc.

Actually I used 2" blocks...

polaris pat - You'll probably want to clutch differently to account for the different gearing and weight.  Madcow is the guy to set you in the right direction for that.

Pat, remove the coolant block that mounts to the bottom half of the crankcase and tap those two holes to 1/2" pipe thread.  use a couple of 90 degree fittings with barb ends and run hose into a "y" and then back up to the water pump.  When you get rid of that coolant block, you'll have lots of room to drop the engine into the Ultra bulkhead.  If you want to see pictures of mine I can get some for you.  Scott.
