ski doo machz 800 blow up

hi

I have recently acquired a skidoo mach z 800 from my uncle, he was riding it one day and the radiator hose came out of its place and rubbed against the secondary clutch which rubbed a hole in it, but he could not stop the snowmobile because he was a couple miles from his house, so he ran it until he thought that the guage said it was too hot. then he shut it off and walked the rest of the way, and when he came back it was froze in the cylinder. And a year later he gave it to me and i was going to fix it up, but i pulled on the ripcord with very little force and it turned over. So i started it up and it ran just fine but i shut it off right away because it did not have any coolant. after that i took the head off and the slides looked perfect and the pistons were fine, i have not heard of this happening before, and i am wondering what kind of work i will need to put into it. and i need to know what to torque the head bolts to. if u could help me post a response and thank u for your time in reading my article.

thanks, josh

Torque the head to 22 ft lbs. I would definitely check all 3 pistons and rings.

I might be wrong but there might be a special order for the head bolts to be put in also

Make sure you check your o-rings real good, slip your cylinders off and check your rings make sure they dont stick in the pistons. I usually start in the middle and work my way out to the ends when I tourque the head bolts

Oh OK. I thought you might be saying that the bolts themselves had to be special ordered. There's a certain sequence no matter what motor you have. It's all about getting the two mating parts to seat square and flush.

Ludwig - I squeaked a motor way up in Canada on a four day ride from low octane gas or water in the gas. I let it cool down... pored a bit of oil down the cylinders and it cranked over. I limped it back about 300 miles. Big Smile [:D] Come to find out the one cylinder was slightly out of round also.

give it a compression check to see if they are all the same.  i over heated my old ski boat and had the same happen.  it wouldn't turn over.  the pistons just expanded.  with a little oil in the cylinders started up and ran fine.  good compression and ran it for 4 more years before i sold the boat.
